ANZAC Day 2009

ANZAC Day is the anniversary of Australian and New Zealand troops landing on the shores of Gallipoli in 1915. A day to show respect and to offer thanks to the brave men and women who risked their lives to keep our shores safe.

It is also a day to thank those soldiers that continue in the footsteps of our forefathers. To offer our sympathy to those who have lost loved ones in recent times. It is a day that when you hear the sound of the last post, that your heart beats a little faster, tears well in your eyes and your thoughts go to those serving overseas in wars or peacekeeping operations.

We bow our heads for a minutes silence.

'They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning. We will remember them. Lest we forget.'

Thx for this post. I face ANZAC day each year with such mixed emotions. Both my grandfathers fought - one in Galipolli. Sadly I never knew either of them. My Dad has marched in every ANZAC Day march as a member of the NSW Police Band. I watched every year and I grew up with the sound of The Last Post as Dad would practice at home in the lead up and tune his 'lips'. As girl I never realised how hard it must have been for him to play that at Dawn services each year. I am so proud of my dad. April 25 - a bittersweet moment for me every year.

Was this a random photo? It is actually cavalry regiment - they are the only ones to have emu plumes in their slouch hat. This is where my husband served for 12 years.

Anita,
Yes, it is just a photo I found in google images under ANZAC. I saw, I liked, I used. LOL.

Jenn,
I know what you mean. I had uncles and cousins serve. ANZAC Day is the day they are in my thoughts all day.
